Shell and tube condenser can be divided into horizontal and vertical. Generally speaking, vertical shell and tube condensers are suitable for large ammonia refrigeration plants. The horizontal shell and tube type is widely used in large and medium refrigeration equipment. The refrigerant is outside the tube inside the shell, and the cooling water is inside the tube.

Vertical water-cooled condenser is suitable for areas with abundant water sources, poor water quality and high water temperature, and is generally arranged outside the computer room. The horizontal water-cooled condenser is suitable for areas with abundant water, low water temperature and good water quality. It is widely used in small and medium ammonia and freon systems, and is generally arranged in the equipment room of the computer room.

The heat transfer coefficient of a shell and tube condenser is not affected by changes in the area heat flux, but rather depends on the cooling water flow and fouling thermal resistance.

SleeveCondenser: A water-cooled condenser in which tubes of different diameters are sleeved together and bent into a spiral or serpentine shape. In the jacketed condenser, the refrigerant vapor is condensed between the jackets, the condensate is led out from below, and the cooling water flows from bottom to top in the smaller diameter pipes, forming a countercurrent with the refrigerant, and the heat transfer effect is better. Generally used for small Freon refrigeration equipment.

Air-cooledCondenser: Using air as the cooling medium, the refrigerant is condensed in the tube, and the air flows outside the tube to absorb the heat released by the refrigerator vapor in the tube.

Air-cooled condenser with free movement of air: When the air flows outside the tube, after absorbing the heat discharged from the refrigerant, the density changes, causing the air to flow freely and continuously take away the condensation heat of the refrigerant vapor. No fan, no noise, mostly used for small refrigeration equipment.

Forced Air Condenser: Consists of one or more sets of finned coils. Refrigerant vapor enters the coil from the upper header, and fins on the outside of the coil are used to enhance air heat transfer. Low noise axial fans force air through the gaps between the fins, passing through the fins and the outer walls of the tubes to exchange heat with the refrigerant vapor in the tubes and condense it into a liquid.

Air-cooledcondenser is suitable for areas with limited water supply and small Freon refrigeration systems. Generally not used in ammonia refrigeration systems.

Evaporative Condenser: Evaporative condensers use water and air as cooling media. The refrigerant vapor in the tubes condenses using the heat absorbed when the water evaporates. The water is lifted by the water pump and sprayed onto the outer surface of the heat transfer tube through the nozzle, forming a water film that absorbs and evaporates into water vapor, which is then taken away by the air entering the condenser. Unevaporated water droplets fall into the lower pool.

The evaporative condenser has small air flow and low water consumption; the circulating water should be softened to prevent scaling on the outer wall; the heat flux of the condenser has a great relationship with the intake wet bulb temperature. Evaporative condensers are suitable for areas with low relative air humidity and water shortage, and are generally arranged in well-ventilated places outdoors.
